‘Beer Chef’ to be toast of festival – 6th June 2015

Celebrity chef Richard Fox will be the guest star at the Accrington Food and Drink Festival on Saturday, June 6.

Richard, dubbed ‘The Beer Chef’, will front this year’s cookery stage on Accrington’s Broadway, with more than 4,000 people expected to attend the festival, which is free to enter.

A host of culinary delights, proudly produced by local farmers and independent traders, will be available for visitors to sample during the special one-day event.

And Richard, who wrote The Food and Beer Cook Book and starred in the ITV series Men Brewing Badly alongside Neil Morrissey, is set to be the star attraction as he demonstrates his cooking skills.

Mr Fox, who has a strong family affinity with Lancashire, specialises in turning leftovers into gastronomic masterpieces.

The Accrington Food and Drink Festival has a proud history of attracting TV cooking personalities with James Martin and Gizzi Erskine among those to have previously attended.

The event will also commemorate the 71st anniversary of the D-Day landings, while two historic buses will transport families from around the area for a small fee.

Online spree for Accrington shopkeeper

Market Online Winner

A new market shopping website designed and created by SDA is proving to be a hit with customers – and one local is in the money after winning a £100 shopping spree on the site.

Anne Goodwin, who owns C’Quinz gifts and accessories shop on Blackburn Road, was announced as the lucky winner of a competition organised to mark the launch of Accrington Market’s new ecommerce shopping website.

The market website – a 12 month pilot scheme produced by SDA working in conjunction with Hyndburn Borough Council – was officially launched in style last month by celebrity guest Jesse McClure, the larger than life TV star who features in Storage Hunters.

Anne was presented with her £100 winning shopping voucher by Kirsty Lauder, Accrington Market Hall’s personal shopper for the new website.

Anne said: “I can’t believe I’ve won, I just can’t believe it – thank you so much to everyone at Accrington Market online.”

When asked what she planned to spend her winnings on, Anne said: “I’m going to stock up on meat for the freezer from the butchers and possibly buy a couple of presents too.”

Kirsty Lauder, Accrington Market personal shopper said: “Congratulations to Anne – we hope she has a great time shopping ‘til she drops on our fantastic new website!

“Orders are coming in thick and fast so we’re off to a brilliant start.

“We’re adding new products and retailers all the time so it’s never been easier to buy great local produce online to collect or have delivered.”

Accrington Market Online was the brainchild of SDA – we understand markets and saw a niche for an online shopping experience that combined the great things about traditional markets with modern ways to buy.

Launched in September 2014, Accrington Market Online is a 12-month pilot scheme to drive footfall back into the town’s beautiful Victorian Market Hall by offering alternative ways to shop.
